Model Overview

The DEEPAL S7 is the second production model launched in 2023 by DEEPAL, the new energy vehicle brand under Changan Automobile. Positioned as a new energy D-segment SUV, it serves as the brand's primary sales volume driver. The DEEPAL S7 made its global debut at the Auto Shanghai in April 2023, officially went on sale on 25 June of the same year, and commenced nationwide customer deliveries on 30 June. Since its rollout, the S7 quickly established itself as the brand's core offering, celebrating its 100,000th unit rolling off the production line in May 2024. In 2025, DEEPAL streamlined the nameplate to S07 and executed a full generational update with the launch of the "All-New DEEPAL S07" in September 2025.

The DEEPAL S7 is offered in both battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) configurations. It is officially positioned as a high-tech NEV brand in the RM120,000 to RM250,000 price bracket, appealing to mainstream buyers aged 20 to 35. As of June 2026, the 2026 DEEPAL S07 on sale features the Huawei Qiankun ADS SE intelligent driving system as standard across the entire range, competing directly with the XPeng G6, Leapmotor C11, and other sub-RM200,000 extended-range mid-size SUVs.

Design Language

The DEEPAL S7 adopts rear-wheel-drive proportions native to dedicated EV architectures, characterised by a low-slung stance and sharp, clean body lines. Its exterior adheres to DEEPAL's "Symbiosis Aesthetics" design philosophy, sporting a moon-crescent front fascia, a closed front grille flanked by split LED headlamp clusters, and signature DEEPAL Eye daytime running lights that deliver high nighttime visual recognition. The BEV and EREV versions feature differentiated front-end styling—a fully sealed fascia and a triangular-mesh grille respectively—paired with an interactive lighting suite packing 696 LED diodes. Along the sides, frameless doors and flush electronic pop-out door handles lower aerodynamic drag whilst enhancing its futuristic aesthetic. The rear is defined by Star Flame full-width LED tail lamps and an energy crystal high-mount stop lamp, finished with a blacked-out floating roof and blue ADAS indicator lamps for a distinctively sporty edge. Available body colours include Chiguang Yellow, Chiyun Orange, Xingyao Black, Lengxing White, and Yueyan Grey.

In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,750 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,625 mm tall, with a generous 2,900 mm wheelbase and an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.258 Cd. Inside, the cabin features a luxury yacht-inspired wraparound cockpit layered with soft-touch materials, accentuated by 64-colour ambient lighting and electronic interior door release buttons. The interior showpiece is the "Sunflower Screen"—a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating central touchscreen that tilts left or right towards the driver or front passenger automatically on demand, completely superseding the conventional instrument binnacle in tandem with a 55-inch AR-HUD holographic head-up display.

Powertrain and Performance

The DEEPAL S7 is available in pure electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains, both configured in a rear-mounted motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout. The BEV model is driven by a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor in various outputs: the 550 km range variant develops 200 kW (approx. 272 PS) and 290 Nm of torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 185 km/h; the 630 km extended-range variant delivers 190 kW. Energy storage comes courtesy of CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with the 550 km version utilising a 68.82 kWh pack rated at an energy consumption of 14 kWh/100 km; selected ultra-long-range models feature a 79.97 kWh ternary lithium (NMC) battery. For charging, the BEV variant supports 800V high-voltage DC fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 15 minutes, with selected versions juicing from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.

The EREV variant couples a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol range extender (98 PS) with a rear permanent magnet synchronous electric drive motor. Battery capacities are rated at 31.73 kWh (230 km pure electric range) and 39.05 kWh (300 km pure electric range) under CLTC testing. Total CLTC combined driving range reaches up to 1,385 km, with real-world tested depleted-battery fuel consumption registering around 5.3 L/100 km in urban driving and 6.2 L/100 km on highways.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the DEEPAL S7 sits on front MacPherson struts and a rear H-arm multi-link independent suspension setup. The rear H-arm assembly is compact and incorporates extensive aluminium alloy components, significantly cutting unsprung weight, improving suspension articulation, and ensuring reassuring high-speed stability. The All-New S07 receives further chassis upgrades, coming standard with class-exclusive adaptive variable suspension paired with its inherent RWD platform, incorporating Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers and Hydraulic Rebound Stop (HRS) dampers to iron out road imperfections via millisecond-level frequency-selective damping. The overall ride is tuned towards pliant comfort, bolstered by standard front hydraulic suspension bushings that isolate fine road buzz.

The electric power steering (EPS) features speed-sensitive damping assistance, offering effortless low-speed manoeuvrability and weighted high-speed stability with accurate tracking. Braking is handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) standard across the lineup. Drive is sent exclusively to the rear wheels, with no all-wheel-drive (AWD) option offered.

Cockpit and Equipment

The DEEPAL S07's intelligent cockpit is driven by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset, backed by 24GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, and an AI compute performance of 30 TOPS. It runs on the Deepal OS 4.0 operating system, integrated with large-scale AI language models to support 27 festive voice assistant persona themes and customisable shortcut scene modules. The user interface integrates a 15.6-inch 2.5K Sunflower central touchscreen with motorised swivel adjustment, a 55-inch AR-HUD system, and a rear control screen, delivering a unified five-screen interactive experience where the AR-HUD replaces the traditional instrument cluster. Connectivity features include Bluetooth support and dual 50W wireless charging pads. On the comfort front, it offers optional dual front zero-gravity massage seats (16-way power adjustment for the driver, 14-way for the passenger, 120° recline, 8-point massage, heating, and ventilation), a 1.9 m² panoramic glass roof with an electric sunblind, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a Dolby Atmos surround sound system. Boot capacity stands at 485 litres, expandable to 1,425 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The DEEPAL S07 comes standard across the board with the Huawei Qiankun ADS SE advanced driver assistance suite, making it one of the very few models in the RM150,000 class to feature high-level ADAS as standard. Built on the same WEWA architecture underpinning the flagship Qiankun ADS 4, the hardware suite utilises 25 sensors including high-definition cameras, millimetre-wave radars, and ultrasonic sensors. Its capabilities span three major driving scenarios: Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) on highways (handling automated on/off-ramp navigation, active lane changes, obstacle avoidance, and cornering assist across 99.2% of national highways), urban Lane Centering Control Plus (LCC Plus with traffic light recognition, countdown timers, and automated pull-away on green lights), and automated parking assist (recognising over 300 parking scenarios including tight spots and unmarked bays, supported by remote parking, memory parking, and valet park-in). Active safety is governed by the CAS 4.0 collision avoidance system with 20 protective functions including Front Cross-Traffic Braking and Rear Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), covering front, side, and rear vectors with pedestrian avoidance operable at speeds of up to 110 km/h.

Passive safety provisions include a high-strength safety cage construction, standard curtain airbags, front-row side airbags, front passenger airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control.

Market Performance and Reception

The DEEPAL S7 serves as the core volume driver for the brand, maintaining steady monthly sales within the 6,000 to 8,000-unit bracket over an extended period. In full-year 2025, DEEPAL recorded total deliveries of 333,100 units, hitting 93% of its revised annual target and representing an approximate 15% year-on-year growth. Entering 2026, DEEPAL S07 sales saw some market fluctuation: 1,975 units in January (1,691 BEV units), 2,537 units in February, rebounding to 4,919 units in March, and further climbing to 5,988 units in April. In terms of brand roadmap, DEEPAL plans to launch at least four brand-new models in 2026 across family SUVs, extended-range off-road pick-up trucks, and D-segment sedans, alongside continual updates for the S7. In pricing, the 2026 DEEPAL S07 carries an official recommended retail price between RM149,900 and RM174,900, with showroom rebates lowering the effective entry price to around RM136,900.

Market feedback has been largely favourable, with owners praising the democratisation of high-level ADAS via standard Huawei Qiankun ADS SE, the minimalist screen-free cockpit layout achieved by the Sunflower Screen and AR-HUD, the generous passenger legroom unlocked by the 2,900 mm wheelbase, and the EREV variant's comprehensive 1,385 km total range. Professional test drives highlighted that its ADAS delivers notable commuting efficiency and effortless automated parking in frequent driving scenarios. Minor criticisms centred on the suspension's pronounced comfort tuning, which can feel slightly under-damped over rapid road ripples and sharp speed humps, with earlier builds exhibiting minor vertical body rebound from the rear suspension.

Overall, as DEEPAL's flagship volume SUV tailored for younger mainstream buyers, the DEEPAL S7/S07 establishes strong competitive differentiation in the RM150,000 to RM200,000 new energy D-segment SUV market through its dual BEV/EREV powertrain offerings, standard-fit Huawei Qiankun intelligent driving, 8295P-powered smart cabin, and engaging RWD chassis setup. As the brand continues to broaden its product lineup and roll out software updates, the DEEPAL S07 is well positioned to solidify its market share in the mainstream new energy SUV segment.
